SolitaireSpike almost ripped the office door off its hinges as her responded to Dawn's scream. He was more than a little baffled to find the office free from intruders and Dawn doing a happy dance at her desk.

Rachel rolled her eyes at Spike's confusion. "Dawn finally won a game of Solitaire." She pointedly ignored Dawn's chorus of We Are the Champions.

"All this over a card game against a computer?" Spike didn't look any more enlightened.

Rachel grinned. "It's quite addictive, but I'd be more impressed if I didn't know she just wangled the cheat codes out of Andrew."

Winning from a cheat is never as satisfying in the long run. ^_^

You can't always get it out with the cheat anyway.

Cheat codes for Solitaire? That's sad ...
8th May, 2006 14:12 (UTC)
Most computer games have them.

I know, but ... cheating on Solitaire. It just doesn't seem right, somehow. Maybe Dawn's a little too other-side-of-the-brain for that game.

I didn't say she did cheat, just that she had the means and Rachel assumes she did.

Good point ... one shouldn't assume.

At first I wondered how anyone even could lose at Solitaire enough to bother making cheat sheets in the first place, but then I went a played a few hands. Lost the first four; one game after only turning three cards! To be honest, I never really realised there was a strategy to Solitaire at all, but I was obviously rusty.

Of course, I won the next few rounds in ever increasing speeds until I was back to completing the game in under 100 seconds and I felt better. ;)

Up next: Go blow myself up a few times in Minesweeper, yay!

The cheat has always been there. I think the programmer added it for testing purposes. If you hold down Shift+Ctrl+Alt and click to deal, it will deal single cards instead of three.

Thank you for writing that -- I needed a laugh today.

And wow, that's some bad luck at computer Solitaire. Is it natural, or does the computer dislike Dawn for some reason?

Probably just distraction and not really investing enough concentration on the game. Or she's just found where it hides in the menu, which is a good possibility if someone like me has ever been near her computer and rearranged the menu.
