The Doctor folded his arms and glared at his companions. "I knew exactly what I was doing."
"You knew the woman drooling in your dinner was proposing marriage? And your reaction was an acceptance? Pull the other one. If me and Jack hadn't claimed you as our mate, you'd be not so happily married now."
"You owe us, Doctor." Jack linked arms with Rose. "Showing some appreciation would be nice."

Yeah, I can see some culture, somewhere, at some point, deciding that saliva was a good social cue for certain things. People are weird enough to do just about anything.
The Doctor definitely needs to show Jack and Rose some appreciation. Appreciation is good. :-)
