Stark

StarkThe Doctor braced himself as the TARDIS shuddered to a stop. The landing drew Jack and Rose to the console room, evidence of their recent, good-natured argument still dusting their clothes.

Before the war had turned it into a desolate, denuded landscape, the planet had been a tourist hub. Now, all signs of habitation had been blasted into rubble, the population long since forgotten.

Jack clenched his teeth; it wasn't the first war zone he'd seen and he doubted be the last. He turned back to find Rose kneeling beside a small, green shoot, the Doctor's hand on her shoulder.

Thanks. This one mutated quite a bit during writing. Wacky muse.

The title captures the mood very accurately. I think, however, that this might have been better at 200 words; it feels a bit hasty as it is.

You're right, this got hacked quite significantly to meet the word limit. Don't know if I'm inclined to lengthen it at the moment, partly due to the lure of purple yarn.
